Responsibility of being dragonkin or otherkin.
As an otherkin, you have some responsibility, mostly to yourself, you need to remember to conduct yourself in a mature fashion or you are just going to alienate yourself from family and friends, that is obvious, and has already been discussed.
But as well, if you choose to openly portray yourself as otherkin, you now are not only representing yourself, but also the concept of our collective belief system, we are not an organized religion, but are rather just a collective of individualists each with unique perceptions of our personal spiritualities, we have no spokesman or public propagandists, if one of us looks bad publicly it reflect upon the whole and there is little that can be done to prevent negative social assumptions.
Our power is in the fact that we are obscure, separate and individual, so remember when you are on your rooftop with that sword declaring yourself Arutama prince of dragons, when the media comes to find out why, shut up about us and just let them assume it is the fault of a D&D game gone awry. Try not to bring unwanted attention to us by being stupid with unsubstantiated claims, behave yourselves, you represent a collective which may wish not to be well known.
As well, take note, that when and if you first awaken, you will likely awaken to many false assumptions and memories in your first year or so, not everything your heart tells you may be true, it must be reaffirmed with knowledge and wisdom, inner truth from the soul, deep meditation and of course faith, you don't get the answers all at once, only assumptions, you have a responsibility to question yourself and evolve in your beliefs, what you believe today may not be what you believe a year from now, things change as you discover more truths from within.
Do not follow others you may meet blindly, their paths are not your own, however, do not shirk their advice either, in all things find balance, learn from your elders and those who came and experienced before, but in the end, your path is your own, compile advice and question the reasoning and rational behind what you were told, what lessons exist, what mistakes where made, what mistakes can you learn from, and how can you grow?
Don't blow off those you disagree with, question, discuss, and learn, we all have different perspectives and experiences, what is right for one, may not be right for others. Take advice, and always be in a state of receptive learning and growth. Lastly, if somebody accuses you of fluff, or ignorance, do not take it as an insult, they had probably experienced the same beliefs or ideas you have now, tried, failed, and matured.
We all start off as fluff, question why another may believe such and listen to their stories, not all things are an immediate attack, we speak from experience to teach those who need it. If we came off as rude, its not your fault, we may just be jaded from telling the same stories and lessons. Always question, always remain in a state of personal growth, your maturity or lack thereof, reflects upon us all. Be your best for all of us, as well as for yourself. _________________ Jafira ~ The Tycosian Dragon Visit The Forum |
