Dragons Vs, Religon (By Jafira) (Quick Note: before I get a bunch of mail about this, let me state that I believe in God etc etc, this is not a strike at religion, I respect, (or try to respect) everyone's beliefs. This is a strike at remarks and fallacies related to or against dragons.) Okay, this is kind of a continuation of the dragon shirt rant . I wear a dragon themed pendent around my neck everywhere I go, I also wear dragon shirts occasionally and sometimes (but seldomly) a dragon themed ring which I "found". Wearing and displaying all of this dragon propaganda I get a lot of negative remarks and questioning by people who may or may not be overly religious. Some of the attacks are obviously from classmates, but others are from bus drivers, teachers, random people off the street. So, I'm gonna discuss some of these conversations in numerical order. 1#. "Your going to hell for wearing that stuff." Response: What I am currently wearing is an assortment of cloth and pewter jewelry much like you yourself are wearing. If I am going to hell for wearing clothes then are you too? But in all seriousness the claim was made because a dragon symbolizes the devil in the Revelations section of the bible. First point here is, symbolism. The reference to satan as a dragon was possibly regarding empires and the kingdoms of man. Also, the dragon in revelations had seven heads. The dragons that I have and read about all have one head. Lastly the dragon in revelations was able to "take a third of the stars in heaven and hurl them to earth." A dragon of that size would be immense. These dragons are somewhere around twenty feet, some probably even smaller then certain dinosaurs were. 2#. "dragons rank in the demon category with me" Response: Fine, you are entitled to your beliefs, just don't try to change mine. If you choose to believe that dragons are a type of demon, go ahead. I have found no evidence to support that they are. In fact I've found no text even explaining what "demons" actually are. If demons are fallen angels, and demons can rank in a dragon category then are some angels dragons? If so, then who's to say whether a dragon is evil or not? Nah, that's just me twisting words around. As said before everyone is entitled to their beliefs some can identify dragons as demons but I've found absolutely no evidence to prove that. 3#. "Dragons are associated with the dark arts therefore by showing that you like dragons you are showing to the world were your true affiliations lay." Response: I'm fine with that. If people want to automatically assume that I'm some kind of evil possessed being bent on the use of "dark arts" to destroy everything good in life fine. Let them. \_/ Muhahaha! I'll use my dark evil powers to smite them all with vengeance! ( Joking ^_^). These people don't know me, If someone can judge that since I love dragons I am involved in dark arts and I'm "evil" then heck, I must be! Oh woe to me.. I like dragons, I have nothing left to do then worship my gods and await eternal flame. How can they just assume I'm into the dark arts by my clothes? I'm not goth or anything, and I'm not into satanism, The assumption that dragons somehow involve dark arts most likely derides from A) The dragon/satan thing. B) The fact that dragons are "magical beings" and C) Lack of understanding. So frankly, I don't care. ~Jafira Dragon |
